Of course it is one of those days that sits in my memory, like how my parents remember exactly what they were doing the day JFK was shot, and how their parents remember Pearl Harbor's Dec 7, 1941. It was my generations turn . . . September 11th, 2001. I was working at the local TV station at the time and I was getting ready for work. I normally went in earlier but that day I had a job on location at a local county fair and my hours were not the same. My DH called me to tell me what had just happened. We weren't married at the time, just dating. We'd only been dating five months. One of our big dates had been to go to NYC for my birthday exactly one month before on 8/11. It was all too surreal.
Over the phone he told me how the first plane had crashed into the WTC and I immediately turned on our news station for coverage. I watched in horror as the second plane crashed into the WTC. I knew then things were always going to be different in our "happy little world." We had been living in a bubble, maybe, never thinking this could happen on our turf. But it did.
And when the plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania...it hit a little too close to home. It is not that far from where I was working that day.
I'm not sure how many people still remember the feelings we all had the minutes, the days, weeks, or months following the tragedy. But I do. I hope too many of us haven't forgotten.

I salute the military troops for keeping my country and my family safe! I also thank the police, firefighters and anyone else who works to keep us safe. Yep, I remember where I was that infamous day and I pray for all of them
Smoochie, my sweet chick,
Connie
I remember exactly what I was doing on 9-11 when I heard the terrible news! Also, I live in Pennsylvania and have a good friend that lived very close to the location where the plane went down. It is almost unreal that you were in New York City one month before it happened.
I thank and pray for all of the brave men and women whose work is to keep us safe.
Sweetie
I remember arriving at work. My colleague told me what had happened. We were sure it had to be an accident, but then the other one hit. We remained glued to the tvs and radios for the next couple of days.
Excellent post...I, too, remember exactly what I was doing on that beautiful, blue sky morning.
I am thankful we have been spared any more horror.
Luv,
Ms.Daisy
My dh and I woke up on 9/11 anticipating leaving for our honeymoon as our last guest had left on a flight the evening of 9/10. We drove to our destination; the skies eerily silent.
I will never forget that day or the fears and tensions the days that followed. I spoke briefly about it in class on 9/10 this year and the impact it has had on international law.
I will never forget.
Jillian,
Yes, I remember 9/11. I was working in the yard and didn't have the TV on. I had gone inside, the phone rang and a friend said turn your TV on....I couldn't believe what I was seeing.....
I do thank our military for all they do to protect our country and their families who sacrifice for them to do so.....
Most of all I thank our gracious God for His love.....Betty
Yesterday as I drove to work, I noticed a man standing on an overpass all by himself, waving an Amercan flag to the cars passing below. Who could forget?
