It's a Sign....Language!

Awhile ago I wrote a post about my seeing a Mom using sign language to communicate with her baby. It was something that caught my eye and I immediately wondered if it was something I "should" do for Dear Bebe.

Well, help is here! Jillian of Jillian, Inc., sent me this really neat book which includes flash cards.

Thank you so much, Jillian! It was very sweet of you to take the time to send us this book and to think of us.

The cards look easy enough to do and it looks like we could have some fun.
Although I have to admit I think these two signs are going to be my favorite! Ha! Which is actually what I am going to do now since I just put Dear Bebe down for a nap. Mommy is tired today! Be back soon.

My sister has tried this with her now 9 mth old (see cupcake posts!) and she says the words!!! She did more for awhile but now just says mo. She is funny we really thought we would have fun with this but since you say the word too she just skipped it! My cousin's now 2 yr old uses it and works well. He is the youngest of 3 and has a chatty sister to talk for him so we hope he does eventually talk.
Good luck and what a sweet surprise! Hugs, Lisa

Will Gramma have to learn this too if Gramma is going to babysit?? LOL!

I used this with my son, he had a hard time expressing the need for 'help' while being frustrated, it worked and he took a extra class in third grade just to learn all the sign language he could.

This is SO great...they actually understand so much sooner than they can talk! You will love it! Ms. Daisy...they are very easy! LOL!

The sign language concept came out after K was already talking; I didn't have time to learn it for N! Happy signing!

....and we must not forget the sign for EAT. That was at the top of my list! ha! I think I've commented already that my 3 1/2yo still almost always signs "please" and "thank you" while saying the word. It was so engrained in him he just does it without thinking. Now if only I could get him to say "please" and "thank you" more often!

I find this concept SO fascinating! My neice did this and it was just amazing to be able to communicate with a child not yet really able to talk!

My DIL, who is a sp. ed. teacher and now a SAHM, used lots of sign with my gr.girl. The comment about how they can understand so much more than they are able to communicate is so correct. The signing really helps reduce frustrations for them. Pairing the signs with the verbalization of the words is important. I have no doubt that Ms.Daisy will be wonderful with signing!!! :) Dana

My cousin used sign language with her son, which turned out to be a good thing as he ended up being significantly language delayed. Before we found this out, though, our favorite/most used signs were "more" and "finished."

Enjoy signing.
